Panel Discussion: Places of Remembering and Forgetting

Sites with difficult heritage, particularly those associated with troubled histories, carry the risk of triggering tension, conflict and social division. FestivALT is collaborating with the Urban Memory Foundation in Wrocław to explore new strategies for working with such places. This discussion will focus on why it is important to recognize these places as special and why they require a unique approach in order to become part of the local culture’s memory. The case studies for this conversation are two spaces of difficult heritage that intersect with urban space: the former Jewish cemetery on Gwarna Street in Wrocław; and the area of the former KL Płaszów camp in Krakow. Join us to learn more about this project.
